Wraparound childcare

Wraparound childcare is expanding. The government’s ambition is that by September 2026 all parents and carers of primary school-aged children should be able to access:

  • term-time childcare in their local area
  • from 8am to 6pm

Wraparound childcare is before and after-school childcare. For example, breakfast clubs and after-school provision. The provision usually runs during term time at either:

  • a school site
  • another local setting such as a community centre, a nursery, or a childminder.

Paying for wraparound childcare

Providers will set their own fees for wraparound places, so prices will vary. Once you have chosen a provider, you will pay the provider for your child’s place.

If you are eligible, you may be able to use Tax-Free Childcare or Universal Credit Childcare to help pay. Check what support is available to you through the tax-free childcare on the GOV UK website.
