Learning Through Play - Early Years

The first five years of a child’s life play a vital role in shaping their future development.

Learning through play is how young children explore, discover and make sense of the world around them. Play supports children’s communication, confidence, curiosity and development across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Every fortnight, the Early Years and Childcare Service will share a new activity card. These simple, practical ideas are designed to:

1. inspire and engage children
2. support areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
3. encourage fun, meaningful learning experiences

Providers may wish to use the activities within their settings, and families can also try them at home. Each activity is designed to be flexible, accessible and easy to adapt to children’s interests and stages of development
