Local SEND Improvement
Buckinghamshire's Local Area SEND Inspection outcome
Ofsted and the CQC conducted their inspection of services for children and young people with SEND in March 2022. During the inspection, Ofsted and CQC inspectors were keen to speak to as many children and young people and their parents and carers as possible.
Following inspection Buckinghamshire had to submit an action plan, also known as a Written Statement of Action. The WSoA focuses on 3 areas:
- therapies
- community paediatrics
- the neuro-developmental pathway for children and young people with ADHD and ASD
It sits alongside other priority areas for improvement, for example, how we support young people with SEND to Prepare for Adulthood (PfA).
We meet regularly with the Department for Education and NHS England as we implement the plan.
August 2024 update
Following a positive WSoA monitoring meeting in July 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) will no longer monitor our progress on 2 of the 3 areas of our WSoA. This is due to progress being good. These areas are:
- Integrated Therapies
- Community Paediatrics
Despite this, we will be working on more changes and improvements that we know are still needed in these areas. This is to ensure that the support we provide continues to improve.
Monitoring will continue on the third area, Neurodevelopmental pathways. We will provide updates on our progress on this page.
July 2024 update
We have had four meetings with them, the last meeting was on 4 July 2024. These meetings will continue until Buckinghamshire has its next full inspection.
We have completed most of the original actions in the WSoA. We know that there is still more to do to reduce waiting lists and improve the support we provide to children and young people with SEND when their needs are first identified. This ongoing work is being taken forward through Buckinghamshire’s SEND Strategic Plan.
