Section 3: Offering an Enhanced Service to People Harmed

What we have done, what has happened as a result, and what we will do next.

What we have done in 2024 to 2025

  • Conducted an audit of services for those harmed by children that the YJST worked with
  • Re-launched Safety Panels with a specific focus on safety to the child and safety within communities
  • Ensured the voice of the person harmed is consistently represented within Joint Decision-Making Panels, Custody Panels and Safety Panels
  • Delivered training on Restorative Approaches to 40 professionals, including police officers, social workers and residential workers
  • Added a further nine reparation placements

What has happened as a result

  • Developed an Improvement Plan based on audit findings, which will be delivered over the next 12 months
  • Ensured the needs of the person harmed are central to safety planning, supporting them to feel safe
  • Equipped professionals with the skills to approach conflict restoratively and in a way that repairs harm
  • Tailored reparation placements to be meaningful to children and reflect their skills and interests

What we will do next

  • Report to the Board every quarter to evidence progress against the Improvement Plan
  • Re-audit practice in partnership with the victim service to monitor the effectiveness of the plan in improving services
  • Seek additional ways of gaining victim feedback to further enhance the service being offered
  • Explore working with the Family Learning Team to offer volunteer opportunities to adults seeking to return to work
