What we have done, what has happened as a result, and what we will do next.
What we have done in 2024 to 2025
- Delivered Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act (LASPO) training to front-line social work managers
- Increased engagement from partners with our custody panels, held when a custodial sentence is a potential outcome
- Provided training for Magistrates on the lived experience of a custodial sentence
- Delivered Court and Remand Process training to all staff and managers
- Promoted family inclusion in all resettlement plans
What has happened as a result
- Workers are attending court for children and can contribute to discussions focused on their needs
- Sentencing proposals are more robust and focused on achieving the safety of the self and within the community through the partnership approach
- Children have been supported through resettlement via a greater partnership approach between professionals and parents
What we will do next
- Re-launch the Magistrates' feedback form to gather learning on YJST report-writing and proposals
- Contribute to the evaluation of children / young adults transferred to Probation, taking place acrossthe Thames Valley
- Board to review every decision where a child is remanded to local authority care or custody
