Transport for post-16 students with SEND
Travel assistance options
If you are assessed and eligible, you can apply for travel assistance. Your two options available are:
- Personal Transport Budget (PTB)
- Council arrange transport (subject to a fee payable to the Council)
Personal Transport Budget (PTB)
A Personal Transport Budget (PTB) is money that is paid at our discretion to parents or carers of students with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) who are eligible for travel assistance.
PTBs are a popular alternative to the traditional services provided by the Council. They allow you to decide the best way for your child to get to and from their school or place of learning.
Council arranged transport
If you decide to use Council-arranged transport, it’s important you know that it is not free for post-16 students. This includes when they are assessed as eligible for travel assistance.
