8. Other education providers
Many people go to school, but this isn't the case for every child and young person. There are many different types of education.
Elective Home Education
Elective Home Education is when a parent or carer decides to provide Home Education for their child.
College
Colleges are mostly focused on the 16 to 18-year-olds phase of education and provide vocational and academic courses. Some colleges also provide full-time study at key stage 4.
Where can I get support
Buckinghamshire Family Centres offer:
- a range of youth courses and youth drop-ins to help and support teenagers
- a variety of parenting programmes for parents and carers of children and young people of all ages
- support finding the different options available after GCSEs
- guidance around financial help at college and university which you can apply for
The SEND Local Offer also has information about the help available for children and young people with SEND in education.
The Virtual School is for young people aged 16 to 25 in care, and who have left care, to help raise their educational achievement and school attendance.

There are lots of educational resources for children and young people from 0 to 18 years old.
