Autism Toolbox for parents and carers

Support available for autistic people who may have difficulty communicating.

Children and Young People Speech and Language service can advise and help develop the following:

• attention and listening
• play skills
• understanding and using spoken language
• recognising and producing speech sounds
• using language socially
• other ways of communicating, for example, signing and symbols
• fluency/stammering

The Curly Hair Project was founded by autistic author Alis Rowe, and supports people on the autistic spectrum and those around them

The National Autistic Society has tips on how to communicate with children and young people with autism, which will help you to understand how they hear and process what you say.
