Buckinghamshire Youth Justice Strategic Plan 2026 to 2029
Section 2: Supporting persons and communities harmed
Supporting persons and communities harmed remains a key area of focus for Buckinghamshire YJST. Over the past 12 months, the service has significantly increased the offer available. This now includes:
- A dedicated worker allocated to every person harmed to ensure consistency
- Developed a Persons Harmed policy which outlines a clear and consistent approach to the way the service engages with persons and communities harmed
- Giving persons harmed a choice in which indirect reparation placement a child takes part in
- A member of staff is trained to support persons harmed who are experiencing domestic abuse
- An enhanced offer of indirect restorative justice by working in partnership with the Thames Valley Police Roads Policing Unit and representatives of local retail businesses
- More robust oversight of assessments and interventions for children ensuring that the safety of the person harmed is focal
- A person harmed privacy notice so that individuals are fully informed in relation to how their data is stored
- Referral Order panel member volunteers trained in their role in representing the harm caused to communities.
- The relaunch of Restorative Family Meetings which allow families to explore solutions to challenges they are experiencing
- Extended support to persons harmed by offences which have resulted in an Absolute Discharge or Conditional Discharge outcome, a previously unavailable service
- Increased the number of persons harmed engaged by the service by 290% within this year as a result of these actions.
